Turn Your Hobby Into A Money-Making Venture

Chances are that if your current job makes you feel like you are stuck, it is time for a change. But, as the saying goes, don’t give up your day job just yet. At least until you’ve found something better unless you have a working spouse who’s very understanding.

You should ponder what it is that you truly enjoy doing. What are your skills and what do you enjoy? What are your strengths now, and what were you best at in school? You should think of what you would like to achieve now and what you are planning to achieve in the long run.

Start with examining your present job to see if there’s any chance of advancement or change of jobs within the company. Ask your boss or your company counselor for the possibility of any other opportunities within the company.

Threatening the company about leaving, or letting them know how unhappy you are might only put you in a bad light. Tell them about your wish to grow in your career, and see what they have to say. Most companies will do what they can to help you be the best you can be. An employee’s wish to do well is seen as an asset to the company.

See if you are qualified for the job you are seeking, and if you are not, inquire about what it will take for you to become qualified; be prepared to go back to school and to take special classes if needed. Be realistic with your job expectations. Most people need to work their way up. Take a look at your resume, and if necessary, update your information, especially in the areas of skills and education. If you prepare the resume yourself double-check it for accuracy and neatness.

A successful interview can be your ticket to starting a new career. Start with dressing for success or what is appropriate for the job you’re seeking. It’s better to appear a little too dressed up than too casual. You should try to make a good impression by making eye contact and sharing your knowledge about the position you are applying for. Never, for any reason, say anything other than nice things about your current and former employers.

Turn your special interest or hobby into a career. If you can manage to earn some sort of income from your hobby while you are still working, go for it. Your favorite pastime could open the doors to a second income, or even become your main income.

If, for example, you enjoy making jewelry, you should look into the possibility of selling your creations online or at craft fairs. Or, you can use the skills you learned practicing your hobby to find a job in a retail jewelry store, or even to advance to a higher position within the industry.

Writing can open many doors, and you can work anywhere as long as you have a laptop. You may not get rich as a travel writer but it offers many perks of sometimes traveling and eating for free.

You might even consider ghost writing as a source of income, since ghost writers are highly sought after by entrepreneurs who look for them to write decent sales letters and articles. Skilled copywriters are usually also in high demand.

Dancing, gardening and ability to deal with animals can all be skills that can help you land a good job. You can check your local adds to find jobs in these sectors. With a little effort, you shouldn’t have any problems finding a good job, even if your search will probably not produce results overnight. But, if the reason you are looking is because you are unhappy with your current situation, your effort is worth it. It’s up to you to get the job search ball rolling.
