Switch Your Phone System Now

VoIP or Voice over Internet Protocol is the latest and greatest innovation using your internet connection rather than traditional analog phone lines for phone communication. VoIP phone services are a technology that converts ordinary analog audio signals into digital for transmission over the internet. There are many advantages to having VoIP phone systems, including cost savings, convenience and a wide variety of system features.

VoIP phone systems appear to function in the same way traditional phone systems do, but behind the scenes a very different service is taking place. Words spoken into a VoIP phone are converted into an electronic signal that is broken down into smaller “pieces” and compressed. These small pieces of information are sent to the receiver where they are decompressed, reassembled and can be heard as normal audio.

In order for VoIP phone systems to work, you need a reliable high-speed, broadband internet connection and either a VoIP phone or VoIP adaptors to connect to your computer. Unlike traditional business phone systems, VoIP phone systems do not require that an extensive amount of equipment be installed into your home of office. Nearly all of the needed equipment is kept on location with the provider.

An ATA (Analog Telephone Adaptor) is commonly used by VoIP customers. This adaptor can connect your existing phone to your computer and internet connection. The ATA converts the analog signals from your phone, changing them into digital signals that can be sent over the internet. This makes installation of the new service incredibly easy. However, sometimes an ATA adapter will include software that needs to be installed on your computer before it can be used.

Some VoIP phone system clients prefer to use IP Phones instead of their existing phones. This preference is such because the IP Phone resembles a normal phone so closely. However, instead of having a wall jack connector like normal phones, an IP phone has an Ethernet connector. This means that instead of plugging the IP phone into your wall jack, it is plugged directly into your router. This handy alternative does not require any additional software be installed onto your hard drive.

The simplest and cheapest way to use a VoIP phone system is through computer-to-computer calls such as Skype or MSN chat. In most cases, these calls can be made and received absolutely free expect for perhaps an increase in monthly internet charges. But you do need a fast, reliable internet connection, microphone and speakers, and a sound card.

Making the switch from a traditional phones to VoIP phone systems is easy. All you need to do if you want to keep your current phones, is to buy the needed adapters. With this exception, you do not need any new hardware. If IP phones are your interest, keep in mind that they are expensive but a good investment if a sophisticated and professional VoIP phone system is your long-standing goal.

Talk to your VoIP phone system provider about feature options and payment plans. There is a wide variety of phone system features for you to choose from and not all providers are the same.
